“It’s raining ashes,” I said to Ron as we ran home.
By the time I arrived home I was covered with volcanic ash. That was on
Tuesday(10/05/99). Such is life in Quito, Ecuador these days. The photo to
the top right was taken on Thursday (10/07/99) and shows an eruption of ash
and vapor. This eruption, however, was half the size of Tuesday’s and
neither of these was the “big one” that they say will come within days to years. We are told that we will have to
learn to live with these ash falls until the major eruption occurs.
“Living with this” includes such disruptions as school being closed
for two weeks (Celyce had to home school our girls). See
additional links to volcanic activity.
Though the volcanic activity
isn’t life-threatening, we do live in a high risk area for mudslides and
heavy ash fall. Please keep Quito in your prayers at this time and pray
for us to share Christ’s peace with those who don’t know Him.
All this has disrupted church ministry as well. We are
working hard to reach our
church goal of 250 cells, but the uncertainty and frequent ash fall has
caused us to cancel various meetings (cells, etc.).
Pray that God would use this situation for His glory.
Pray for us as we work on training leaders to lead the 60 cell
groups within our network (our contribution to the 250 cell goal).
